Charlie Rich – The Most Beautiful Girl

I’m a black man who grew up in Charleston, SC. I was born in 1966. I remember hearing this song played on AM radio in the early 1970’s. To this very day it’s one of my favorites.

The politically divisive environment that exists today can not comprehend the relationship that existed between working class black and white people in the south that I remember. I just want to say that I love my white brothers and sisters of the south. We loved and supported each other. I remember the stories of my parents and grand parents of the Great Depression and World War II and how we pulled through. Southern history is often characterized as racist and intolerant. That’s not the south I remember growing up in. People loved and respected one another.
